#1 - Welcome!

Hi! My name is Kellie Oviosun.
25. 5' 5". Corporate drone by day, young graphic designer by night. Oh and I loves me some #him.

Hey! My name is Trey Washington.
I'm a first-year graduate student, infatuated with the following:
running, live music, thrift stores, well-tailored suits, sweet tea, the South,
and the shawty above! Duh!

Our paths crossed seven years ago as freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Now, we're jumping the broom
(though not literally because Kellie would NEVER)!

We thought it'd be cool to journal the discoveries that we make
and the lessons that we learn,
as we make this exciting transition into the married life.

But first, please allow us to be clear about a few things up front, g.

What we are NOT:
Relationship coaches,
self-help professionals,
"experts" of any sort,
espousing marriage over the single life.

What we ARE:
Best friends,
Tar Heels,
in looooove,
and engaged!

We just want to share our joy throughout this experience,
in hopes that it blesses those who read!
Well, that, and the fact that when entering wedding-related queries into Google, such as:

"Are pulled-pork sliders and Cook-Out shakes too provincial for a wedding reception?"
"How to politely tell Nigerians that the party is, in fact, over and they can go home now."
"Is Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' an appropriate mother/son dance song?"

we quickly found that a) Google's predictive searches prove that no matter how crazy our questions are, someone, somewhere, is thinking the same thing. b) Wedding-related questions don't result in many answers/pictures/videos from people who look like us.
(Not even for typical things like dress styles, hairstyles, or engagement shoot ideas.)

Soooo, if nothing else, over the course of the next 50 weeks,
we hope that our posts will offer a fresh perspective on engagement and wedding planning!

Thanks so much for visiting! We look forward to sharing with y'all!

  1. What an awesome idea!! From one Tar Heel "soon-to-wed" to another, I can tell you that it's crazy out here yall! Lol we've been engaged for 5 months now and time is flying between now and THE DAY (which means less time for Google searches, haha). We are not experts but I can definitely share something my coworker said to me- "weddings are pure, they are simple, they are peaceful, but, people don't have weddings anymore, they have productions!" I decided right then that we were going to focus on the marriage prep and not toooo much on the wedding prep because we have favor and God has got the rest (Thank you Jesus)!

If Mike and I have learned anything its to stay grounded, surround yourselves with the right "team" to help you achieve your wedding vision, stay close to the JOY and ENjoy every moment of the engagement period, which is exactly what you're doing with this blog, so bravo!!

Thanks for sharing your story, and I look forward to seeing your posts!!

    Many Blessing!

Kelli (Head Over Heels for Mike) Cheatham :-)

  2. This is great! I look forward to reading. Congrats you too!
